‘Guardiola clearly doesn’t trust him’ – Sam Lee makes claim on Man City ace’s future

Manchester City defender John Stones is reportedly desperate to stay at the Etihad and fight for his place in Pep Guardiola’s starting lineup.

Much was expected of the Englishman when he arrived at the Etihad Stadium, but the defender failed to take his game to the next level under Guardiola.

“I know Stones has done a couple of social media posts saying, ‘Love it here, can’t wait for next season’ or whatever, but the only way that Stones carries on next season is if nobody makes a good enough offer, because [Pep] Guardiola clearly doesn’t trust him – that shouldn’t even be a controversial thing to say.”

Arsenal and Chelsea have previously been credited with an interest in Stones, but the two London rivals have brought in other defensive reinforcements ahead of the Premier League’s return this weekend.

Stones has turned out 133 times for City since arriving in a £47.5m deal from Everton in 2016, scoring five goals in that time
