Gio Reyna recently named Manchester City striker Erling Haaland as the best player he has played with in his career. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has secured a loan move to Nottingham Forest until the end of the season. Reyna only started two of the 14 matches he played for the German side in all competitions, likely the reason for his loan move, as he aims to get more game time.
The Midlands club shared a video of their new signing talking about himself, in which Reyna mentioned Haaland. The two had previously played together at Dortmund, featuring in 58 matches and racking up nine joint goal participations.
Before Haaland’s move to City in the 2022 summer transfer window, he scored 86 goals in 89 appearances across all competitions. Since joining Pep Guardiola’s side, the Norwegian has scored 71 times in 76 matches, winning five major titles along the way. These impressive stats make it understandable why Reyna has named him as the best player he has shared a pitch with, even though he had the likes of Marco Reus and Jude Bellingham as teammates.
With Reyna now at Nottingham Forest, it will be interesting to see if he features against City when the two teams meet later in the season, and how he fares against his former teammate.
Reyna made his admiration for Haaland public in a quick-fire Q&A video on Forest’s official Tik Tok account. There, he was asked who the best player he’s ever played with is and did not hesitate to name Haaland.
The post has garnered attention from fans and the media, with interest in the potential matchup between Reyna and Haaland when Nottingham Forest faces Manchester City later in the season. It appears that Reyna holds Haaland in high regard and looks forward to potentially reuniting with him on the field.
