Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Pep Guardiola’s side are actively exploring an approach for Declan Rice.
The 24-year-old England international looked to be on his way to Arsenal. Every media outlet was writing about it as if it was a done deal, but the Gunners suffered a setback yesterday as West Ham rejected their initial £80million bid.
West Ham have long said that it would take at least £100million to prise Rice away from the Hammers, so it was quite an audacious attempt by Arsenal to go in at £80million.
Perhaps they were feeling confident due to all the indicators pointing towards it being a nailed-on inevitability. But there could yet be another twist in the tale.
That’s because Manchester City are believed to be showing interest in competing with Arsenal for Rice’s signature this summer.
That’s according to a report by the Daily Telegraph that claims Manchester City are ready to enter the bidding war West Ham are hoping to set in motion for their England man.
West Ham are believed to be interested in what Man City may be able to offer for the player, further delaying the Gunners’ plans to make a swift move for their No 1 transfer target.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@chinmay_k99: “Please make it happen Txiki”
@maitypulation: “Get him in Txiki”
@thegingerwig: “Swap with Phillips. Gives us an alternative to Stones in the centre back/midfield hybrid given John’s injury record. Hopefully a back up to Rodri as well as can’t expect him to play 50 games per season. ”
@richard_ogaga: “This means that Phillips will leave the club, but what is the point of buying Rice and Kova.”
@CptnKillStik: “Hoping this happens🤞”
@RealTalkMCFC: “Would be amazing signing. Let’s goooo”
@Jack_tevo: “Would be a great signing, but I just think he has his sights set on Arsenal and it’s just a matter of time before it’s announced.”
@ItsLB_City: “This would be wild. Still think he’s Arsenal bound.”
