Former footballer Gary Lineker has made a choice between Manchester City and Liverpool, revealing which team he would prefer to play for. The two clubs have been fierce rivals over the past five seasons and have pushed each other to new levels of football excellence.

Despite Manchester City narrowly winning the Premier League twice by a single point, Liverpool has enjoyed more success in cup competitions. The Merseyside team has knocked out Pep Guardiola’s side in the Champions League and FA Cup and also won the Community Shield in 2022.

With Jurgen Klopp leaving Anfield after a successful nine-year tenure, the end of an era between two great managers is imminent.

Lineker, a prolific striker in his playing days, has chosen Manchester City as the team he would like to play for due to their style of play and attacking prowess, although he acknowledges that there is not much difference between the two clubs when it comes to his choice.

He said: “I think that would probably be Liverpool or Manchester City.

“They’ve got different styles but I think I’ll probably go with Manchester City because they get to the byline more often but there’s not a lot in it.”

Lineker, who scored over 300 career goals for his clubs and country, would fit well into the Manchester City side with his goal-scoring instincts, awareness of space, and positioning. His experience and skillset make him a suitable candidate to thrive under Guardiola’s system at the Etihad stadium.

This decision reflects Lineker’s preference for Manchester City’s playing style, which involves getting to the byline frequently and creating goal-scoring opportunities. Despite the intense rivalry between the two clubs, Lineker’s choice showcases his admiration for the brand of football played by Manchester City.
