Fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Manchester City have closed a deal with Grêmio for the signing of young midfielder Diego Rosa.

Although the 17-year-old has yet to appear for his club’s senior side, MailOnline reports he has caught the eye of City’s scouts.

According to Globo Esporte via Sport Witness, the 18 year old midfielder will sign a five-year deal, in a transfer which could cost up to £21.8m.

The report claims the negotiations are 99% done and and only ‘bureaucratic issues and signatures are missing for the official announcement.

He is expected to be loaned to the Italian first division or Girona.

Rosa does not turn 18 until October so while a deal can be put in place he will not be registered with City until January.

In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Chief, Man City fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions.

“We can spend €25m on a random 17 year old that we’ll never seen in the first team but we can’t pay an extra €5m for Torres or Koulibaly”, claimed one fan.

while another asked, “Why are we willing to pay £20m for this guy ? When we know we’ll definitely buy someone else next season to replace Ferna and next one another season to replace Gundo !! Rather use that money to buy Koulibaly and fix the defense more at least 5 years.”

while another tweeted, “They will get 12m of that 24m only if City register him in to the PL squad. So if he isn’t good enough City won’t register him and they don’t have to pay that 12.”

Another tweet said: “It’s like less than 5m upfront rest are if City register him to the PL, If he makes 10 appearances for City etc so it’s great deal.”
