Txiki Begiristain is expected to leave Manchester City after 13 years, with his replacement set to start next year. Begiristain played a prominent role in selecting his successor before his departure. Fabrizio Romano revealed that Sporting CP’s Hugo Viana is the favorite to replace Begiristain, having made successful signings during his time at the Portuguese club. Viana has helped Sporting CP win the Liga Portugal twice since becoming their director of football in 2018.
Begiristain’s tenure at City has been pivotal in transforming the club into a dominant force in English football. His arrival in 2012 marked a turning point for the club, which was not previously considered elite. The next sporting director will have big shoes to fill, with Viana emerging as a top candidate to continue City’s success under Pep Guardiola.
