Manchester City had one of the best defences in the Premier League last season, conceding only 34 goals, with only Arsenal conceding fewer. Despite this, they managed to win the Premier League trophy for the fourth time in a row. The team is known for its strong crop of defenders, with two of them, John Stones and Ruben Dias, being compared recently by former Premier League star Nani.
In a video uploaded on the talkSPORT YouTube channel, Nani was asked to choose between Ruben Dias and John Stones for a centre-back role in a combined Portugal and England XI. Nani picked Dias, citing his impressive season and performance. Dias joined City in 2020 and has shown reliability at the back, leading to praise from teammates like Bernardo Silva. Stones, on the other hand, has been with City since 2016 and has also been a key figure in the team’s defence.
Despite both Stones and Dias being important players for Manchester City, Nani’s choice of Dias over Stones can be understood based on Dias’ consistent performance and reliability at the back. With Dias making more appearances and topping defensive statistics in the previous season, it is clear why he was chosen by Nani in the comparison between the two defenders.
