Close associates of Erling Haaland have reportedly brushed off rumors of a potential move to Real Madrid in private, according to the latest reports on the Norwegian’s future.

Real Madrid, the current leaders of La Liga, are in the final stages of negotiations for a transfer of French international superstar Kylian Mbappe. This development has raised questions about what it means for Erling Haaland.

The Norway international has long been a target for the iconic Madrid club but ultimately chose to move to Manchester City in the summer of 2022, despite interest from Real and other European giants.

Despite his commitment to his boyhood club and his father’s team, Spanish media continues to report on supposed interest and the “inevitability” of a future move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Following the cancellation of one of Erling Haaland’s Manchester City release clauses, there is new information about his remaining clauses and talk of a potential new deal. According to The Athletic’s Sam Lee, new release clauses for Haaland at Manchester City will kick in “in future years” at figures closer to £100 million.

While such clauses complicate contract talks between all parties, discussions are something that both Manchester City and Haaland himself are open to when possible. The reality is that release clauses are only relevant if Haaland wants to leave Manchester City, and the latest information suggests that it is not a pressing issue for the 23-year-old.

Reportedly, those close to Haaland have privately dismissed links to Real Madrid, despite his long-standing admiration for the iconic Spanish club. For now, Haaland remains the focal point of Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering season and continues to impress with his goalscoring prowess.

Haaland recently scored Manchester City’s winning goal against Brentford in the Premier League, further showcasing his impact on the team. Despite a stress fracture injury that kept him out of action for around two months, Haaland has scored 22 goals and provided six assists in 28 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions this season.
