Manchester City’s first-choice goalkeeper, Ederson, has expressed his desire to leave the club this summer, despite reporting for pre-season training. Several clubs from the Saudi Pro League are interested in signing him, with Al-Ittihad reportedly ready to test City’s resolve with a £50 million offer. City officials do not want Ederson to leave, but have set a high asking price for any potential transfer.
Despite being willing to sign a new contract earlier in the year, Ederson’s future at City remains uncertain as he considers a move to Saudi Arabia. City may not seek a direct replacement for Ederson if he leaves, instead opting to promote back-up goalkeeper Stefan Ortega. Former City goalkeeper James Trafford, currently at Burnley, has also been mentioned as a possible option for the club.
If Ederson does depart, City would be left with only Scott Carson as their senior goalkeeper, with the veteran already under contract until 2024/25. While City want to keep Ederson, they are prepared for his potential exit and have contingency plans in place for his departure.
