Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter, which relays reports that Pep Guardiola is thought to be interested in David Alaba because of the 28-year-old’s ability to play at left-back and in central defence.
Manchester City’s underwhelming 2019/20 Premier League campaign laid bare the defensive frailties in Pep Guardiola’s squad. As lethal as Manchester City are going forward, they are porous at the back.
Pep Guardiola is ready to raid the transfer market in a bid to put Manchester City back on top of the Premier League after failing to keep pace with Jurgen Klopp’s relentless Liverpool this season, seeing the Reds streak to the title with seven games to spare.
According to Guardian Sport, Bayern Munich’s David Alaba is thought to be of interest to Pep Guardiola because of the Austrian’s ability to play at left-back and in central defence – two areas of the Manchester City squad he wants to strengthen.
Pep Guardiola, who is in desperate need of centre-back, is a big fan of the versatile 28-year-old, especially since Pep and Alaba established a fantastic relationship at Bayern during their three title-winning seasons together.
Alaba’s current deal with Bayern expires next summer and no progress has been made regarding a new contract. it’s believed that Bayern would rather have Alaba stay at the club and lose him for nothing next year.
However, it appears City will have to look elsewhere to fill their massive hole in their back line.
