Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has advised Man City fans not to anticipate another amazing goal like the one he scored against Brighton because it’s not his strong suit.
The Belgian made headlines by scoring his first ever Premier League headed goal in spectacular fashion. Despite scoring numerous goals for Manchester City, none of them had been headers until this one.
He gave Pep Guardiola’s team a deserved lead against Brighton with a slick diving header in the 17th minute of the Premier League match.
Phil Foden scored twice and Julian Alvarez also scored his first league goals since January to secure a 4-0 away win and increase the pressure on Arsenal, who are at the top of the league tabl
Speaking after the match, Kevin De Bruyne emphasized that scoring diving goals is not his forte, so such occurrences are rare.
“It’s not something I am good at!” the Manchester City midfielder stated during the post-match conference.
“It doesn’t happen too much. Kyle [Walker] provided a good cross, and I had to jump to reach it. I’ll take it, but it’s not something I excel at!
“It was a good game. I believe we performed well in the first half, and every game carries a lot of pressure. Our only option is to prepare as we did today and win the next game in front of us.”
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is one of those who would love to see Kevin De Bruyne replicate a similar goal. Guardiola mentioned after the match that his midfielder is encouraged to attempt the header again if he wishes.
“It was a fantastic header. If he wants to try it again, he’s more than welcome,” stated Pep Guardiola during the post-match interview.
De Bruyne’s Header Compared To Robin Van Persie’s Famous World Cup Goal
Kevin De Bruyne’s header continues to spark reactions from the football world. Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp compared the goal to Robin Van Persie’s memorable goal for the Netherlands in the World Cup against Spain.
Redknapp mentioned that De Bruyne’s ability to do things differently sets him apart from other attacking midfielders. He expressed surprise at De Bruyne’s fantastic goal and argued that the City midfield maestro surpasses the likes of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, David Silva, and Yaya Toure.
“Kevin De Bruyne, we’ve witnessed some greats like [Steven] Gerrard, [Frank] Lampard, David Silva, Yaya Toure, outstanding attacking midfielders. He’s the best in my opinion,” Redknapp remarked via Daily Mail
“He does things that are out of this world. The passes that he has made since coming to the Premier League are exceptional. He can score all types of goals, including diving headers. Every time I see him, I’m amazed.”
