Manchester City’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain is set to leave the club at the end of the 2024/2025 season. Begiristain, who has been with the club since October 2012, has played a crucial role in signing elite players and forming a successful partnership with manager Pep Guardiola. The 60-year-old had originally planned to step down at the age of 55 but extended his stay due to his strong relationship with the club and Guardiola. Manchester City has already identified a successor for Begiristain, who is expected to start in early 2025.
David Ornstein, a journalist for The Athletic, reported on Begiristain’s impending departure and revealed that the Spaniard had informed the club of his decision to leave after the current season. Despite his planned exit, Begiristain will continue in his role until the end of the season during a handover period. The 60-year-old’s eye for talent has been instrumental in City’s success in English football, but he is now set to bid farewell to the club after nearly 13 years of service.
The successor to Txiki Begiristain has already been chosen by Manchester City, with the new sporting director expected to take over in 2025. Begiristain, who formed a strong partnership with Guardiola and played a key role in selecting his replacement, will oversee the transition period before departing from the club. His departure marks the end of an era for Manchester City, as the club prepares to welcome a new director of football and continue their success in the coming seasons.
