Manchester City has a history of selling players for significant transfer fees, with Borussia Dortmund recently signing Yan Couto for £25m after a loan move. The club has also sold players like Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus to fellow Premier League sides. Pundit Darren Bent recently claimed that Cole Palmer, who left City for Chelsea, may not have developed as he has if he stayed at City under Pep Guardiola, due to the competition for playing time.
Palmer, who was named England’s Player of the Year, has impressed at Chelsea with 31 goals and 20 assists in 54 appearances. Guardiola praised Palmer’s quality and acknowledged his decision to leave for more playing time. Despite City’s track record of developing young talent, Bent believes Palmer’s freedom at Chelsea has allowed him to excel in a chaotic environment, suggesting that he may not have had the same opportunities at City.
