Stuttgart and Croatia left-back Borna Sosa admits he may be tempted to leave the Bundesliga outfit when quizzed about reported interest from Premier League champions Manchester City, speaking to L’Equipe.
Likened to England legend David Beckham as per Stuttgart’s sporting director Sven Mislintat, Sosa is regarded by many as one of the best fullbacks in the Germany top-flight.
Sosa opted to stay at the Mercedez Benz Arena last summer amid interest from all corners of the continent. The decision may be taken out of his hands in 2023, however, Sky Germany claiming that Stuttgart simply have to sell due to their crippling financial situation.
There certainly won’t be any shortage of offers. Especially with Sosa catching the eye for Croatia at the Qatar World Cup. He was a constant threat once again during the 0-0 draw with Belgium which secured Croatia’s place in the last-16 on Thursday.
When quizzed about reported interest from Premier League champions Manchester City as well as other big clubs, Sosa told L’Equipe: “There was a lot of interest (in the summer).”
“In the end, I got an offer from Atalanta but decided to stay at Stuttgart. I’ve been there for five years and I’m in no rush to change.”
When pressed on alleged interest from Pep Guardiola’s Man City side, however, Sosa indicated that the chance to continue his development at one of Europe’s elite clubs may be too good to turn down.
“Of course, every player wants to progress and develop his career,” Sosa adds. “I’m sure that, after the World Cup, that will be my case too.”
