Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is ready to hand a new one-year contract to Fernandinho.
An indisputable fact remains that ever since Fernandinho’s arrival at Manchester City in 2013, the Brazilian has rightly etched his name as one of the Premier League’s greatest ever defensive midfielders.
The 36-year-old Brazilian midfielder, who has spent the last eight and a half years with the Citizens, signed a one-year contract extension in the summer, which is due to expire in June 2022.
While the ageing midfielder may be past his unparalleled best, he continues to remain a stellar operator, as showcased by his dominant display recently at Carrow Road.
According to Brazilian outlet Torcedores as relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester City have been moving ‘behind the scenes’ to renew his deal, as director Txiki Begiristain has Pep Guardiola’s approval for that.
The report states that while Pep Guardiola tries to hold Fernandinho at Man City as a player, he also has a spot for him in his coaching staff.
The report claims City plan to give Fernandinho another one-year deal, and will like to raise his salary, which is said to be of €1.1m a month.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
“i just can’t bring myself to say no to a Dinho extension even though i know he’s past it. He’s still better at 37 than half the DMs in the league”

“This is a class move by the club but certainly not the smartest in terms of player quality. I fully support it though.”

“With all due respect he’s a great player for us but surely it’s time to just kick back and relax Ferna? Man’s gonna have no legs soon and it’s not like he can keep up with the tempo.”
