According to The Mirror, both Manchester City and Chelsea are closely monitoring the situation of Alphonso Davies’ contract with Bayern Munich. The two clubs are in search of a new left-back, and Davies, a Canadian international, has caught their attention as a potential target for the upcoming summer transfer window.

Davies has less than 18 months left on his contract with Bayern, and if he does not agree to an extension, the club may be forced to consider selling the defender at the end of the season.

The Mirror reports that Davies has turned down Bayern’s latest offer, which was reportedly worth around £8.5 million per season or £163,000 per week. The player is said to be holding out for £11 million a year.

Davies is widely considered one of the best left-backs in the world of football. His speed, with reports of reaching up to 23mph in both the Bundesliga and Champions League, has captured the attention of Manchester City. With manager Pep Guardiola having deployed centre-backs in the left-back position throughout the season, bringing in a specialist like Davies could be an option worth considering for City.

However, despite City’s interest, it has been widely reported that Davies has expressed a preference for a move to Real Madrid. The La Liga club, in need of a new left-back, is willing to meet Davies’ wage demands. With resources potentially limited, especially if they secure the services of Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, this could provide an opening for City to pursue a deal for Davies.

In contrast, Chelsea may not pose a significant threat in the race for Davies. With their absence from the Champions League next year and potential limitations in meeting the player’s wage demands, their chances of securing Davies’ signature appear slim.

Both Manchester City and Chelsea will continue to closely monitor Davies’ contract situation at Bayern Munich as they look to strengthen their left-back position for the upcoming season.
