Manchester City had a quiet summer transfer window, with their focus more on selling players rather than buying new ones. They made few signings, including a £33m deal for Savinho and resigning Ilkay Gundogan on a free transfer from Barcelona. Despite opportunities to sign players like Martin Zubimendi, City opted not to make a move. Zubimendi, a Real Sociedad player who turned down a move to Liverpool, has been praised for his performance in La Liga, ending the previous season with the highest number of passes into the final third and interceptions at his club.
Zubimendi, who has made nearly 200 senior appearances for Sociedad, has been dubbed an “extraordinary” player by former Barcelona manager Xavi. Despite his impressive performances, City refrained from bidding for the player in the summer, opting to focus on other areas for strengthening their squad.
