Alan Shearer holds the record for most goals scored in the Premier League, with 260 goals in 441 games. Former top-flight striker Chris Sutton compared Shearer to current Manchester City player Erling Haaland after Haaland’s impressive hat-trick against West Ham United. Sutton believes that Haaland still has a way to go to reach Shearer’s level of excellence.
Haaland has scored 70 goals in 69 Premier League games since joining City in 2022, winning the Golden Boot in his debut season with 36 goals in 35 games. With his impressive goal-scoring rate, there is speculation that Haaland could potentially break Shearer’s record if he continues to perform at this level and stays with City. Stephen Warnock also suggested that Haaland could go on to win a third consecutive Golden Boot and potentially break Shearer’s goalscoring record in the future.
