Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, currently on loan, is being considered for a return to Leeds United, his boyhood club, this summer.

The 28-year-old, who turned down offers from multiple clubs last summer, is likely to leave the Etihad Stadium permanently at the end of the current season after facing challenges at the club.

In 2022, Phillips made a £42 million switch from Leeds United to Manchester City. Despite winning trophies in his first season, he had limited playing time with only six starts in 18 months.

He moved to West Ham during the January transfer window for the rest of the 2023/24 term but has also encountered difficulties under David Moyes in London.

A potential permanent move to West Ham was likely affected by a controversial incident involving Phillips and a supporter at St James’ Park, where he made offensive gestures towards fans.

Phillips recently conceded a penalty in West Ham’s loss to Newcastle and has also received a red card early in his time with the club.

Having played seven Premier League games for West Ham and only ten in total for Manchester City, the 28-year-old is looking to revive his career this summer with a likely departure from City.

Leeds United, his former club, are reportedly interested in offering Phillips a chance to return to Elland Road if they secure promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds is rumored to be considering a deal worth around £30 million with Manchester City to bring back the player who spent 12 years with the club.

A move to Leeds could impact City’s pursuit of West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta, with previous speculation hinting at a possible exchange involving Phillips for the Brazilian midfielder.

Paqueta, who has an £85 million release clause, was close to a move to City last summer until issues surfaced regarding a FIFA and FA investigation.
