Manchester United’s mega-rich superstars dominate L’Equipe’s list of the Premier League’s highest-paid players, it has been revealed, with Kevin de Bruyne also on the list on a pay packet of £1.7 million per month.
United have failed to challenge for the Premier League title even once since they last won it, way back in 2013 in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge before retirement.
It has been another disappointing campaign for the Red Devils given the talent at their disposal. Despite splashing the cash, they will once again go trophyless this season after last week’s Champions League elimination at the hands of Atletico Madrid.
According to French publication L’Equipe, five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest paid player in the league. He takes home a reported £2.2 million per month, which equates to £26.4 million per year.
Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne is the second highest earner on £1.7 million per month [20.4m], while United goalkeeper David De Gea takes bronze position when it comes to pay, raking in £1.6 million every month [£19.2m]
Jadon Sancho, who joined the ranks at Old Trafford last summer from Borussia Dortmund for a reported £73 milliom, is believed to take home £1.5 million per month (£18m).
And another recent transfer, former Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane, earns £1.3 million a month [£15.6m].
Whether United are getting value for money is open to debate, however, the vast outlay has not been matched by their performances on the pitch.
Many Man City fans believe only Kevin De Bruyne deserves to be on that list. The midfield maestro is often hailed as one of the Premier League’s best players of the current age. He’s netted 11 times and set up a further eight in all this season as he vies to win his fourth title with City.
Here’s how some reacted to this L’Equipe’s list of the Premier League’s highest-paid players.
Only one deserves to be up there https://t.co/LzgwPx6nqe
