Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the Premier League champions are reportedly “interested” in a summer move for Leicester City talisman James Maddison.
Maddison, who is also a target for Newcastle United, will have just 12 months to run on his contract at the King Power in the summer and Leicester know that it could be their final opportunity to secure a fee that justifies the talent he possesses.
City could be in need of a midfield revamp in the coming transfer window with the futures of Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva up in the air.
According to the Daily Mail, Pep Guardiola is keen to freshen up his squad and add more goals to his side from midfield with Maddison on a list of targets that also include Jude Bellingham.
The report also states that Maddison is keen to test himself at the elite level with Man City the perfect place to do as they search for their fifth title in six seasons this term.
As highlighted by the report, James Maddison will soon be entering the final 12 months of his £100,000-a-week contract at Leicester City and has so far shown ‘no inclination’ to sign an extension. As such, it is stated that the Foxes are ‘increasingly unlikely’ to be able to hold on to the player in the summer.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@SxrgioSZN: “what’s the point tho?.”
@mcfcIeo_: “I’m about to have an aneurism. This is our level now, watch Chelsea, Arsenal and Utd spend all the big bucks whilst we replace Bernardo Silva and Gundogan with a lad from Leicester who couldn’t get into the England team and then wonder why we’re performing like a mid table team.”
@johnnydejesus: “As long as it doesn’t impact signing another top top midfielder… Assuming both Gundo and Bernardo leave, will need two there in the summer.”
@mcfclou: “As long as we get Bellingham and a left back first I wouldn’t mind this.”
@Weather40297744: “Get him and Bellingham, we’re bound to lose silva in the summer. Then look at defense and we’ll have a great squad.”
@IshaanG05212156: “Good player but not what we need. Get bellingham or get a winger and put foden in the midfield. I think a move to newcastle makes sense for him.”
@virginmojito__: “Brilliant player but he’s not what we actually need atm.”
@c__ferrara: “Top player, only a year left on his contract so won’t cost too much. Get it done..”
