Bernardo Silva, who have decided to stay at Manchester City despite speculation linking him with a move away from the Etihad, has backed Erling Haaland to break goalscoring records.
Norway star Haaland took his goal tally for City to nine in just five Premier League games after plundering a second successive hat-trick in a 6-0 rout of Nottingham Forest.
City’s £51million summer signing from Borussia Dortmund looks on course to rewrite Premier League goal records this season, with the football world in awe of his formidable scoring prowess since arriving in England in the summer.
Haaland, 22, could even break Everton legend Dixie Dean’s record of 60 league goals in a single season, which has stood for almost 100 years. Asked how many goals he thinks Haaland can score this season, Bernardo said: “I hope 50 or 60 – by Christmas!
“He’s playing well, but it doesn’t matter who scores. If the strikers score, it’s always nice for the team, because it’s good for the confidence and helps them go again.
“If I could choose, then only strikers would score, because it’s nice to have them confident and aggressive, it’s where we need them, so as many goals as possible. Erling is so good, so quick, so strong. His hunger for goals, he always wants more and to have a striker like him in our team is just great. Especially in the last two games he was unbelievable and I hope he continues in this way.
“I think in the games he’s even better, in terms of when he gets pressure he gets better and deals with it very well. You can see in his face the way he wants to score, how aggressive he is inside the box and that’s great to have in the box. Julian Alvarez as well is so good. It’s nice to have two strikers like them that smell the goal and know where to be in the box.”
