Manchester City’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain will be leaving the club at the end of the season after a 13-year spell. City announced that Hugo Viana, who has been at Sporting CP for six years, will be replacing Begiristain. Bernardo Silva, a City player, expressed optimism about Viana’s appointment due to their shared Portuguese nationality. Viana has been involved in signing players at Sporting such as Viktor Gyokeres and Ousmane Diomande.
Silva’s positive reaction to Viana’s appointment suggests that City hope for continued success under the new sporting director. Viana will officially start at City in the summer after working with Begiristain to ensure a smooth transition. The club will be looking for Viana to replicate the success that Begiristain has brought during his time at the Etihad Stadium.
