Manchester City are reportedly close to signing a young and talented winger who has already received praise from Barcelona legend Deco.

The January transfer window passed without much activity for City, with Kalvin Phillips loaned to West Ham United for the rest of the season.

However, the upcoming summer window appears to be heating up as reports indicate that the European champions are in the final stages of securing the signature of exciting winger Savio.

Savio, a 19-year-old who has impressed in La Liga this season at sister club Girona, is actually owned by another City sister club, French side Troyes.

Despite bids from German and English clubs, Savio is set to join Manchester City in the summer. Barcelona and other top European clubs also expressed interest in signing the young winger, but it looks like City have moved quickly to secure his services.

The Brazilian winger has received high praise from Barcelona’s sporting director Deco, who highlighted Savio’s dribbling ability and technical quality. Deco has expressed confidence in Savio’s potential for success in Spain and believes that he fits the profile of the type of player that Spanish football appreciates.

“Spanish football likes this type of player with dribbling ability,” Deco told the Esporte Espetacular TV show, as quoted by Sport, in December 2023.

“In Spain, people love having the opportunity to watch beautiful football, with players of technical quality, and Savio fits into this historical profile that Spanish football has always had.

“He is at the beginning of his career and is attracting attention, he is a young player who has a lot of future. If he continues in this line of growth he will be very successful in Spain.”

Savio’s style of play, which involves carrying the ball at his feet and completing numerous dribbles, makes him a suitable fit for Pep Guardiola’s City.

Guardiola has recently shifted tactics to incorporate traditional wingers who are given freedom to dribble past players and deliver balls into the box. With Savio being the leader in completed dribbles in La Liga this season, his playing style aligns with this tactical shift at City.

It remains to be seen whether Savio will go straight into the first team or go out on loan after completing his transfer.

However, his arrival at the Etihad Stadium looks promising and suggests that he will be a good fit for the club. This signing adds further excitement to City’s future and their prospects for continued success.
