Barcelona are reportedly considering making a loan offer to sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City in the summer.

In March, it was claimed that Bayern Munich had no intention to trigger the £62 million buy option to sign the Portuguese full-back.

Branded as an ‘amazing player’ by Bernardo Silva, there is no disputing just how much of a unicorn of a full-back Joao Cancelo is.

But of course, after his reported falling out with Pep Guardiola, the ever-credible Jack Gaughan reported in late January that his chances of returning to the Etihad Stadium are virtually non-existent.

Reports from Germany now suggest that the full-back is unlikely to be signed permanently by Bayern Munich having not established himself as a regular.

This would mean he would return to City in the summer. According to journalist Toni Juanmarti, Barcelona would be interested in signing Cancelo should he not complete a permanent switch to Bavaria.

But, this deal would only be made possible if Barca could sell a centre-back. Currently, the La Liga giants are experiencing financial troubles and need to be careful so as to avoid breaking Financial Fair Play (FFP).

Elsewhere, Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte is reportedly likely to leave the club in the summer.

Laporte has found game time hard to come by in recent weeks as the Blues’ Ruben Dias, John Stones and Nathan Ake have enjoyed bright spells. Rumours have been circulating for a while that the Spanish international has been becoming restless in Manchester and is looking for an exit.

His current contract expires in 2025 but, having not played for City in the Premier League since the draw at Nottingham Forest, speculation has grown. Should he leave the Etihad, one of the clubs rumoured to be interested in him is Tottenham Hotspur.

However, according to Give Me Sport, Laporte is unlikely to make the switch to North London. Their reporter, Dean Jones explained: “We’ve reported before that Laporte is likely to be one of the exits if they’re going to happen.

“I would question whether he would go to Tottenham. I’m not sure that that’s the sort of move Laporte has on his agenda if he’s going to actually look to leave Manchester City.

“From everything I’ve heard, he would be looking to move abroad and wouldn’t actually be looking to stay in the Premier League. So I’m not so sure about Tottenham as a landing spot.”
