Barcelona are looking to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri as a replacement for Sergio Busquets, according to reports.

Busquets’s contract at Barcelona is expiring at the end of the season. At 34 years old, he is reaching the latter stages of his career, so Barcelona will need to find a long-term replacement for the midfielder.

According to Fichajes as relayed by Caught Offside, Barcelona are considering both Manchester City midfielder Rodri and Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.

However, as per the report, convincing Manchester City to part ways with Rodri won’t be easy. and any deal would cost in excess of €100m.

Rodri is pivotal to how Manchester City play, dictating the tempo and controlling the game. Indeed, it speaks volumes that the 26-year-old is an untouchable in Guardiola’s ever-rotating starting XI.

Only goalkeeper Ederson has played more league minutes than Rodri so far this season, who ranks as one of City’s top five best-performing players by average match rating (WhoScored).

Operating as a sole pivot in front of Guardiola’s back four, the midfield general consistently helps to dictate matches with his physicality and sublime range of passing.

Rodri has two assists to his name already this season and has won more aerial duels per 90 than any City player (WhoScored), highlighting his underrated role for the champions.
