Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo has agreed to personal terms with Barcelona for the 2024/25 campaign, even though he is still under contract with City until 2027. Cancelo has not played competitively for City since January 2023, after a falling out with manager Pep Guardiola led to loan spells at Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
Having made over 150 appearances and won three Premier League titles with Manchester City, Cancelo also had a successful loan spell at Barcelona last season, contributing to nine goals in 42 appearances. Barcelona is looking to either permanently sign Cancelo or agree to another loan deal, but Manchester City is reportedly not considering another temporary transfer.
Barcelona is facing competition from Saudi Pro League teams for Cancelo’s signature, and it has been reported that they are also considering Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka as an alternative. Despite the uncertain future, Cancelo could still feature in Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the USA this year.
