Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Kalvin Phillips is determined to stay and fight for his place at Manchester City.

The 27-year-old joined the Premier League champions from Leeds United for £45 million last summer to strengthen competition in midfield following the departure of club veteran Fernandinho.

However, a series of injuries and lack of minutes have marred Phillips’ debut campaign at the Etihad Stadium, raising questions over the Yorkshireman’s future in Manchester amid interest from the likes of West Ham.

But despite reports linking him with a move away from the Etihad Stadium, TalkSPORT claim that he’s set to stay at City.

The England international reportedly thinks he can force his way into Pep Guardiola’s plans next year. As a result, he’s said to be prepared to shun a potential move away.

However, it’s claimed that this doesn’t mean he’s certain to remain at City. Any final decision surrounding his future will reportedly lie with Guardiola himself.

Should the Spanish coach decide that Phillips is surplus to requirements, TalkSPORT name West Ham United as an interested party.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.

@EKatuta: “As he should, He will come good next season no doubt”

@mcfcadam10: “Gotta rate it, lot of players would be sulking in his position and want out. Great mentality”

@MCFC_Buckers: “He’s the player we need. Willing to be a backup, but knows he can push towards being a top player. He’ll come good.”

@AwelShai: “He should relax. He will fit into this team very soon”

@Linkup_daddy: “Great mentality…I believe he’ll come good. Rodri started off as bad in his first season.”

@JPJoker01: “Amazing mentality, you could see how happy he was last night too even though he knew he was only going to be playing like 5 mins at most, a lot of players would probably be in tears crying to their agents if it was them”

@mcfcharv: “Have full respect for the lad, the last time players wanted to stay and fight for their place, we ended up with this john stones and Nathan Ake. let’s just get behind kalvin as fans, he’s having a hard enough time already without us lot getting on his back.”

@Baddest_Boko: “I wish him good luck…..I know his challenger is a beast “rodri” but let him try.”
