Manchester City are no strangers to seeing big-name players leave the club, with the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, and Gabriel Jesus all departing after successful spells. As the summer transfer window comes to a close, City have once again seen players leave on loan or permanent deals. One player who has recently left is Julian Alvarez, who was sold to Atletico Madrid for £81m after playing a key role for City last season, according to former top-flight star Alan Shearer.
Shearer highlighted Alvarez’s importance to City, noting that he played a significant role in the team’s success last season by starting 25 Premier League matches and creating the most chances for the team. Despite the profit City made on Alvarez, his departure leaves a big gap in the team’s attacking options, as he scored 36 goals and provided 18 assists in 103 appearances for the club. Guardiola revealed that Alvarez wanted a new challenge, leading to his move to Atletico and leaving City without a key player on the field.
