Andy Hinchcliffe and Roy Keane were left stunned “just looking” at Ilkay Gundogan’s opening goal in the clash between Everton and Manchester City on Sunday (14 May).
Gundogan perfectly controlled a Riyad Mahrez cross in the 37th minute before flicking the ball past Jordan Pickford with his back to goal.
Hinchcliffe reacted to the goal and was blown away by the piece of skill from the mercurial midfielder.
“That’s an extraordinary piece of improvisation from Ilkay Gundogan,” said Hinchcliffe (Sky Sports commentary, 14:38, 14 May).
“The touch off his thigh is outstanding. It’s just individual brilliance. That’s not by accident he knows exactly what he’s doing. That’s stunning.”
Roy Keane was also left stunned “just looking” at Ilkay Gundogan’s opening goal.
“My goodness,” Keane said, as quoted by Sky Sports. “What a finish. I’m feeling my hip just looking at it!”
