In the Premier League era, Manchester City have had various top attacking players, including Raheem Sterling, who spent seven successful years at the club, scoring 131 goals and assisting 73 times in 339 appearances. Despite Sterling’s achievements, former player Peter Crouch recently ranked Riyad Mahrez above him in terms of skill and performance. Mahrez, who was signed by City three years after Sterling, scored 78 goals and provided 56 assists in 236 games before being sold to Al-Ahli in 2023 for £30m.
Crouch’s ranking of Mahrez above Sterling sparked discussions among pundits and fans, especially considering both wingers were considered top signings for Manchester City. While Sterling had an impressive record during his time at the club, the preference for Mahrez over him by Crouch suggests different opinions on the two players’ abilities and contributions to the team.
