Manchester City made a profit of £111 million from player sales in the recent summer transfer window, continuing their trend of cashing in on players. One player who left the club in 2023, Riyad Mahrez, has been praised for his exceptional first touch on the pitch by former player Darren Bent. Despite his impressive skills, Mahrez was not included in Bent’s dream African Premier League XI, with Mohamed Salah taking his spot due to his prolific goal-scoring record for Liverpool.
Mahrez, who was signed for £60 million from Leicester City in 2018, played 236 games for City, scoring 78 goals and providing 56 assists while winning multiple trophies. His technical ability, especially his first touch, has been highlighted by various observers, including Phil Foden. However, Salah’s goal-scoring prowess ultimately led to him being chosen over Mahrez in Bent’s XI, showcasing the tough competition among African players in the Premier League.
