Ben Chilwell, a left-back who has played against Manchester City in 12 games across his time at Leicester City and Chelsea, has named Riyad Mahrez as the toughest opponent he has ever faced. Chilwell highlighted Mahrez’s skill and ability to terrify defenders, noting that the Algerian winger was a significant challenge to play against. Mahrez, who was signed by City for £60m in 2018 and went on to score 78 goals in 236 appearances for the club, proved to be a formidable attacking force during his time in the Premier League.
Chilwell and Mahrez appeared in 37 matches together at Leicester, giving the full-back firsthand experience of facing the former City star on the pitch. Mahrez won three out of the five encounters against Chilwell, showcasing his attacking prowess by scoring a goal in a 3-1 victory over Leicester. The English defender’s praise for Mahrez further solidifies the Algerian’s reputation as a top-level player who was a challenge for many defenders to contain during his time in the Premier League.
