Romeo Lavia, a talented midfielder, never got the chance to shine at Manchester City due to injuries. Despite impressing at Southampton, he only made one appearance for City before being sold to the Saints. Lavia believed he was ready to play at City, but Pep Guardiola felt he needed more development. Now at Chelsea, Lavia is determined to prove his worth after injuries derailed his first season with the club. With a price tag of £58 million, expectations are high for the young Belgian dynamo to make an impact at Stamford Bridge.
Having been scouted by Pep Guardiola at a youth tournament, Lavia once had a lot of hype surrounding him at City. While he was named Player of the Season for PL2 in 2021, he struggled to break into the first team and was eventually sold. Lavia’s belief in his readiness to play was not shared by Guardiola, leading to his departure from City. Now hoping to thrive at Chelsea, Lavia will need to stay fit and shine alongside the likes of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in order to fulfill his potential and prove Guardiola wrong about his readiness for top-level football.
