Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is reportedly being considered as a transfer target for Manchester City as an alternative to Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes. Despite recently turning down a move to Liverpool, some fans believe Zubimendi would be a valuable addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad, while others are skeptical about his interest in joining City.
One reason why City may prefer Zubimendi over Guimaraes is the price tag attached to each player. Newcastle is expected to demand over £100m for Guimaraes, while Zubimendi has a buyout fee of €60m (£51m) in his contract. However, convincing the midfielder to leave Real Sociedad may prove to be a challenge, as several top clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona have all reportedly failed to sign him in the past year.
Zubimendi’s happiness at Real Sociedad and his rejection of multiple clubs over the past year suggest that City would need to make a considerable effort to persuade him to make the move. Despite the challenges, some fans are excited about the prospect of Zubimendi joining City, while others remain doubtful about the likelihood of the transfer happening.
