Manchester City begin their season on Sunday with almost all players back from the summer break, except for Rodri who is expected to return. The club had many players at Euro 2024, including four in the final, with Rodri coming out on top. Three England players also returned following the Community Shield victory, with Kyle Walker and John Stones expressing their excitement to be back in training.
City face Chelsea in their opening Premier League game, potentially a tough test despite City’s pre-season win against the Blues. Pep Guardiola’s team selection will be interesting, with some players returning last week while others, like the England contingent and possibly Rodri, might not feature due to limited training sessions. City fans are eager for the game, although it is unlikely that Walker, Stones, or Foden will play, and Pep may need to find alternatives in the lineup.
In the absence of Walker and Stones, Rico Lewis and Manuel Akanji could step in, while Mateo Kovacic may replace Rodri. De Bruyne or Bernardo Silva could take Foden’s place as the advanced midfielder. Overall, the return of key players is a positive sign for City fans, even if they may not feature in the season opener against Chelsea.
