Manchester City have been unsuccessful in their attempt to sign Barcelona’s teenage prospect Guille Fernandez this summer. The City Football Academy, where the Sky Blues are currently preparing for the new season, has recently seen some managerial changes and has been working on adding new talent, such as the recent signing of 15-year-old Timeo Whisker.
Despite facing losses in their previous pre-season friendly matches against Celtic and AC Milan, Manchester City is gearing up to face Barcelona in Orlando before concluding their four-match tour with a game against Chelsea. Barcelona announced that Fernandez has decided to sign a new three-year deal with them, turning down offers from Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund.
Fernandez, who is represented by Jorge Mendes, has been impressing during pre-season training with Barcelona’s first-team and has made appearances for the Barcelona B team and the Under-19 Barcelona team in the UEFA Youth League. The young midfielder’s decision to stay with Barcelona highlights the challenges Manchester City face in attracting and signing top talent, especially from Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy.
