Troy Deeney believes that Manchester City has two players, Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez, who are beyond anyone in Liverpool’s squad. Liverpool, once in the title race, has fallen behind City and Arsenal in recent weeks due to dropped points against teams like Crystal Palace and Everton. Deeney highlighted Liverpool’s need for a striker who can score consistently like Haaland and Alvarez, suggesting that the Reds are missing that key player to compete at a high level.
In terms of Premier League goals scored this season, Liverpool has scored 77 goals in 35 games, with Darwin Nunez contributing 11 goals in 33 appearances. On the other hand, Manchester City has scored 82 goals in 34 games, with Haaland scoring 21 goals in 27 matches and Alvarez adding nine goals in 33 games. Deeney points out that Haaland and Alvarez have a higher rate of goals per shot and goals per shot on target compared to Nunez, indicating that Liverpool would benefit more from having players like them in their squad.
Deeney questions Nunez’s ability to score consistently in training and believes that Liverpool needs a striker who can deliver in crucial moments. With only a few games left in the campaign, Liverpool’s struggles in front of goal have been highlighted by Deeney, who suggests that City’s attacking duo of Haaland and Alvarez are the type of players the Reds need to improve their chances of success.
