Manchester City striker Erling Haaland did not receive any votes for the Football Writers’ Association Men’s Football of the Year award, which was won by his teammate Phil Foden. Foden received 42% of the overall vote and beat out competition from his teammates and rivals. This marked the second consecutive year that a Manchester City player won the award, as Haaland had won it in the previous season.

Despite his impressive record of 42 goal contributions across all competitions, Haaland did not receive any nominations for the award. Roy Keane and others have criticized Haaland for being primarily a goalscorer and not a well-rounded footballer. However, Haaland responded to these criticisms by scoring four goals in a Premier League match against Wolves, and defiantly stating that he does not care about Keane’s opinions.

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden won the Men’s Football of the Year award, beating out the likes of Declan Rice and Rodri. Haaland’s absence from the nomination list may have been due to perceptions that he is solely focused on scoring goals, rather than being a complete player. Despite this criticism, Haaland continues to perform at a high level on the field.
