Manchester City ‘almost’ agreed deal to keep Cole Palmer through loan deal with recently-crowned league champions

Last summer, Cole Palmer was close to joining Manchester City on a loan deal to the Netherlands, but ultimately signed with Chelsea on a seven-year contract for a reported initial fee of £40 million, potentially rising to £42.5 million. Recent reports suggest that Manchester City had tried to keep Palmer through alternative transfers or by showing faith in his abilities under Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City had reportedly tried to send Palmer to Vincent Kompany’s Burnley on a temporary basis, and made efforts to convince him to stay at the Etihad for another season. However, new information from the Netherlands indicates that PSV Eindhoven was close to signing Palmer on loan last summer, but Chelsea moved swiftly to secure his permanent transfer.

Since joining Chelsea, Palmer has had a significant impact on the team’s attacking line, scoring 24 goals and providing 13 assists in 42 appearances. His 21 Premier League goals have placed him second in the top-scorers charts. Manchester City does not have a buy-back or sell-on clause in the deal, but retains a financial interest due to add-ons included in the agreement.
