Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong prefers former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie over Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero in terms of shooting, passing, football IQ, and leadership. However, Frimpong did acknowledge Aguero’s famous goal against QPR in 2012, a moment he remembers well as a ball boy at the time. Frimpong was a part of Manchester City’s academy but never made his senior debut before leaving the club.
Since leaving City in 2019, Frimpong has had a successful career, spending time at Celtic before moving to Leverkusen in 2021. He has established himself as an attack-minded fullback, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists in 42 appearances this season. With a reported release clause of €40m in his contract, Frimpong is expected to attract interest from top clubs, including Manchester City and Manchester United, as a potential long-term replacement for Kyle Walker.
Frimpong’s impressive performances with Leverkusen, winning the Bundesliga title, have put him in demand this summer transfer window. The Dutch international’s rise in Germany has sparked speculation about a potential return to City, where his career began. With his attacking prowess and defensive capabilities, Frimpong could be a valuable addition to any top club looking for a dynamic fullback in the future.
