Gerard Pique, a former player for Barcelona, shared his thoughts on who would win in a hypothetical match between Manchester City’s current team and Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona team from 2011. Pique played a significant role in Barcelona’s success during the 2010/11 season when they won the Champions League final against Manchester United. He believes that his old Barcelona side would come out victorious against Guardiola’s current City team.
Looking at the statistics from the 2010/11 season for Barcelona and the 22/23 season for Manchester City, both sides had impressive records in their respective leagues and Champions League campaigns. Barcelona won 30 out of 38 La Liga games, scoring 95 goals and conceding 21, while City won 28 Premier League games, scoring 94 goals and conceding 33. Both teams showed dominance in their competitions, making them some of the most impressive sides in European football.
While Pique’s bias towards his former Barcelona team is understandable, there is a tough comparison between the two sides. Both Barcelona and Manchester City under Guardiola have had successful seasons and displayed incredible performances. Ultimately, it is difficult to determine a clear winner in a theoretical match between these two powerhouse teams.
