Manchester City and West Ham United had a deal agreed for the transfer of Cole Palmer, who has since excelled at Chelsea. Despite his lack of consistent playing time at City, Chelsea made a significant investment in Palmer, leading to him becoming a key player at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea paid an initial fee of £40 million for Palmer, with potential add-ons bringing the total to £42.5 million. This investment has paid off, with Palmer scoring 23 goals and providing 13 assists in 39 appearances for Chelsea this season. West Ham United, who had also shown interest in Palmer, did not value him as highly as Chelsea did.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised Palmer’s talents and acknowledged that the player’s desire to leave the club was not a surprise. Guardiola has admitted that he did not give Palmer as many opportunities as he deserved during his time at Manchester City, making his success at Chelsea all the more impressive. Despite the deal falling through with West Ham, Palmer has proven himself to be a valuable asset to Chelsea.
