Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has named former Manchester City player Sergio Aguero as one of the toughest opponents he has ever faced. Van Dijk mentioned that Aguero was always a handful to play against, despite not scoring many goals against his teams. Aguero, who played for City for 10 years, scored 260 goals in 390 appearances and won numerous trophies during his time in England.
Although Aguero only scored one goal against Van Dijk in their encounters, the fact that he was a prolific goal scorer in the Premier League made him a challenging opponent for the defender. Van Dijk remembered a goal scored by Aguero against Liverpool in the 2018/19 season, where he quickly finished a cross in front of Dejan Lovren. Aguero’s ability to score with both feet and his attacking prowess made him a constant threat on the field.
Despite facing off against Aguero several times during his career, Van Dijk acknowledged that the former City star was always a tough player to play against. Aguero’s goal-scoring record and his overall impact on the pitch made him a formidable opponent for the Dutch defender. Van Dijk’s comments shed light on the quality and skill of one of the Premier League’s most iconic strikers in recent years.
