Manchester City are reportedly open to selling goalkeeper Stefan Ortega for around £30 million this summer. Despite being mainly used in domestic cup matches and UEFA Champions League group stage games, Ortega has impressed when called upon, particularly in matches against top teams like Arsenal and Real Madrid. However, with uncertainty around his playing time due to the presence of main goalkeeper Ederson, who is currently injured, Ortega’s future at Manchester City is in question.
The 31-year-old German shot-stopper could potentially leave Etihad Stadium if he fails to agree on a new deal with the club. Manchester City have shown keenness to resolve this situation quickly, and a sale may be on the cards if Ortega decides to move on. Signing Ortega from Arminia Bielefeld in 2022 turned out to be a good move for City, and selling him for a high fee could be profitable business for the Premier League champions.
If Ortega does depart, Manchester City would have to consider bringing in a replacement goalkeeper during the transfer window. Alongside other significant signings like Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips, Ortega joined City as part of a busy transfer window. The departure of the German goalkeeper would create space for a new player, although the exact profile or identity of the replacement is yet to be determined.
