Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker is set to be assessed ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid. The 33-year-old has been absent since suffering a hamstring injury during an international match in March. Walker was named on the bench for the weekend’s Premier League game against Luton Town but did not play.
Walker’s availability for the crucial match with Real Madrid could be vital for Manchester City’s chances of advancing to the Champions League semi-finals. Guardiola’s side is looking to knockout Real Madrid for the second consecutive year and reach the last four for a fourth successive season. With Manchester City conceding three goals in the first leg, Walker’s defensive skills could be necessary for success.
Guardiola has not confirmed whether Walker will start the quarter-final second leg, but the full-back has been training with the first team ahead of the match. City could also have centre-back Nathan Ake available for the match and will face an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea just days later. Guardiola remains hopeful that Walker will be fit and available for the crucial match against Real Madrid.
