Manchester City has become one of the most successful teams in the world, experiencing significant growth in revenues and commercial worth over the past 15 to 20 years. The arrival of new owners in 2008 sparked a transformation in both the club’s infrastructure and financial standing. While Sheikh Mansour has invested heavily into the club, Manchester City has become self-sustaining due to its success on the pitch and financial acumen off of it.
According to Forbes, Manchester City is valued at $4.99 billion as of May 2023, representing an 18% increase year-on-year. The club’s valuation has increased significantly over the past decade, growing seventeen-fold since 2011 when it was worth only $291 million. Manchester City’s record revenues for the 2022-23 season totaled £712.8 million, with a profit of £80.4 million. They are now ranked second on the Deloitte Money League table for 2024.
In comparison to other clubs in the Premier League and Europe, Manchester City is the 5th most valuable team in world football. Real Madrid, Manchester United, Barcelona, and Liverpool rank above them, with City’s growth keeping pace with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United. The club’s success on the pitch, coupled with its increasing commercial opportunities, is likely to see Manchester City surpass rivals like Liverpool in becoming the second most valuable English team in the near future.
