Bernardo Silva is reportedly considering a move from Manchester City to Barcelona this summer, but the La Liga club needs to sell players before they can make any new signings. Barcelona has been interested in the Portuguese playmaker for some time and made an attempt to sign him last year.
Despite Barcelona’s financial struggles in recent years, the possibility of Silva joining the club this summer seems more likely than in previous transfer windows. Reports suggest that there is a £50 million release clause in Silva’s contract, making a potential move to Barcelona feasible.
Although Arsenal has also been linked with Silva, a move to a domestic rival seems unlikely. Silva’s Portugal teammate Joao Felix has jokingly claimed that he has convinced Silva to move to Catalonia. Reports in Spanish newspapers have linked Silva to Barcelona, with suggestions that a summer move is possible if Barcelona can sell players to raise funds.
Barcelona is reportedly adopting a ‘1:1 rule’, meaning they will reinvest every penny from player sales into new signings. Silva is said to be the club’s top midfield target, with Barcelona wanting him to reunite with former City player Ilkay Gundogan.
Silva, who has been a consistent performer for Manchester City under Pep Guardiola, joined the club in 2017 and has had 127 goal contributions in 348 appearances. Despite his release clause being below his market value, negotiations with Manchester City are expected as Barcelona looks to secure the player they desire.
Silva has won multiple titles with Manchester City and is seen as a club legend, but he believes that this summer is the right time for him to leave the club and fulfill his desire to join Barcelona.
