Manchester City are rumored to be offering former England international goalkeeper Joe Hart the chance to return to the Etihad Stadium where he won two Premier League titles. This comes after Hart announced his retirement from professional football earlier in the month, and Celtic being reported as his final club. Although it is still unclear the role that Hart would play at Manchester City, it is assumed to be a non-footballing position or as an ambassador.
Hart’s time at Manchester City ended under unclear circumstances, with many believing he did not fit the style required by manager Pep Guardiola. Despite this, Manchester City are seemingly eager to bring Hart back to the club in a new capacity. Hart’s impressive career spanned his progression from boyhood club Shrewsbury Town to Manchester City, with loan stints in Italy along the way. While Hart has not pursued coaching badges, a coaching role in goalkeeping has been suggested for his future career path.
During his time at Manchester City, Hart made 348 appearances and won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and a League Cup. Manchester City initially paid a £100,000 fee for Hart in 2006 and that would later rise to £1.5 million based on undisclosed clauses. On the goalkeeping front, Manchester City might face difficulty retaining Stefan Ortega Moreno this summer due to interest from various clubs as his contract is set to expire in 2025.
