Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been singing the praises of a player from Manchester City. Despite his departure from Old Trafford in late 2021, Solskjaer has not shied away from commending the talent of a certain player from the rival team.
During his time at Manchester United, Solskjaer was keen on signing players like Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, and Erling Haaland. Despite missing out on these signings, Solskjaer still holds a deep admiration for Haaland, a player he had helped nurture during his time at Molde.
In a recent interview on the Stick to Football podcast, Solskjaer spoke highly of Haaland’s character and playing style. He described the young striker as a team player who prioritizes the success of the team over personal stats.
Solskjaer said: “You know that kid gives everyone so much energy.
“He’s such a great lad. To see him smiling. He’s got more than just being a great lad.
“He’s a team player and one-on-one with the keeper, he doesn’t think about his own stats.
“He passes if someone else is… if I can give it to you and it’s a 100 per cent goal. He’s a gem.”
Haaland’s career progression has been nothing short of exceptional. His decision to join Borussia Dortmund allowed him to develop his skills away from the spotlight before making a move to Manchester City, where he has become a prolific goal-scorer. With 52 goals in 53 games leading City to a treble triumph, Haaland’s impact has been undeniable.
Solskjaer’s admiration for Haaland’s talent and attitude serves as a testament to the striker’s abilities on the football pitch. Despite missing out on signing him for Manchester United, Solskjaer remains impressed by Haaland’s contributions to Manchester City and his unwavering dedication to the team’s success.
